Newcomer Settlement Services

Provided by Burnaby Neighbourhood House

Provides support services for settlement and integration.
The Burnaby Neighbourhood House (BNH) offers a series of free programs for newcomers, immigrants and refugees to Canada in order to support settlement and integration into communities, including the following:
  • Settlement Services: Support with access to eligible benefits and adjusting to life in Canada, basic language translation/interpretation services, and food aid through referrals to community programs.
  • Professional Support: Case management, and developing personal settlement plans, one on one or family counselling for emotional and social issues, transitional life skills facilitation and home-visits to support home life.
  • Long-Term Community Engagement and Social-Economic Integration: Volunteering and community involvement opportunities, and employment services such as pre-employment readiness career planning, employment connections, resume writing, and connections with vocation training opportunities. All while promoting and sharing your cultural values and experiences while contributing to an inclusive Canada
  • Referrals to In-House Programs and Resources for all age groups: including children, pre-teen, youth, seniors, families, to address all health and wellness needs.
BNH Newcomer Settlement Coordinators are available to answer any questions, and to provide information on available resources and programs in Mandarin, Dari, Farsi, Filipino, Spanish and Arabic. BNH also presents information in Hindi, Punjabi and Vietnamese.

Be sure to refer to the calendar of events for regular updates on new workshops and programs including Christmas events like Posada NavideƱa; mental health workshop series; conversation groups in other languages; multi-cultural family place drop-ins; and the new Neighbours Podcast. All programming is free of cost, but most do require registration in order to attend.
