Indigenous Wellness Program

Helps Indigenous patients access cultural supports and services.
The Indigenous Wellness Program supports self-identified Indigenous patients and families by providing access to traditional cultural practices and community supports including Elders, as well discharge planning and supporting culturally safe navigation for complaints. Their team also provides a critical role supporting service providers to understand principles of cultural safety and humility and apply their learnings to the care environment. The program provides:
  • Access to cultural practices, including the All Nations Sacred Space and Traditional Medicines;
  • Day to day consultation and navigational support;
  • Cultural interpretation and/or health literacy translation services;
  • Discharge planning and family support;
  • Connect patients to community resources and supports, including Elders;
  • Support culturally safe navigation for complaints;
  • Help to support the provision of culturally safe care;
  • Provides peer support from lived/living experience to patients and families receiving services at St. Paul’s Hospital and Providence Health Care (PHC) and provide emotional supports and help facilitate culturally safe and appropriate care for patients and families receiving services.
